Man Accused Of Stealing $500 Worth Of Items From Westport Walgreens

An area man was arrested for allegedly stealing some $500 worth of cigarettes in a snack-and-grab theft at a Fairfield County Walgreens.

Clinton Edwards, 49, of New Haven, was arrested on Wednesday, Nov. 4, for the alleged incident which took place on Tuesday, June 23, at the Walgreens at 880 Post Road East in Westport, said Lt. Anthony Prezioso.

According to Prezioso, Westport Police officers responded to the store after store employees called to report a theft.

An employee told officers that an unknown man had stolen a carton of cigarettes valued at $500.00 and fled the store in a waiting vehicle.

Through further investigation including information sharing with other agencies, Edwards was developed as a suspect and a warrant was applied for, Prezioso, said.

On Wednesday, Nov. 4, officers served the warrant at Stamford Superior Court where Edwards was charged with larceny.

He is being held on a $30,000 bond.
